Emma Williams Ceramics
Extra Large FormCoil built, stoneware clay, copper oxide inlaid into texture, barium carbonate earthenware glaze. 2008, 12 cm H approx, £110.00 I make unique, handmade decorative ceramic pieces for the interior in stoneware, earthenware and porcelain clays. Based on the vessel form, the larger pieces are created by gradually joining and smoothing coils of clay onto a base made in a press-mould. The small, pebble shaped pieces are made by joining together pinched or 'thumb' pots, which are then smoothed into shape with tools. A small hole allows air to escape during the firing process. My work is inspired by the form, colour, texture and pattern of natural objects like pebbles, fossils, minerals and shells. Decorative details are created by pressing fossils and handmade stamps into the clay. I also mask areas with paper stencils and texture the clay with tools. A ceramic oxide and a dry glaze containing copper to produce a range of blues, purples and greens is finally applied and fired onto the work at 1050ºc in an electric kiln. Large, Medium and Small Pebble FormsPinched and joined forms, stoneware, earthenware and porcelain clays, copper oxide and earthenware glaze splashed on/ inlaid into texture, barium carbonate earthenware glaze. 2007, 7 cm - 3cm H approx, £30.00, £15.00, £10.00. I try to update these images regularly, as my pieces are one-offs. Though I do repeat some designs, no two pieces are exactly the same, and I am always trying to gradually introduce new ideas for decorative designs.
