Short Shoots
SPIES, DEATH AND ANIMATION
The young people have produced a DVD of their work, and they have their own website. The films will be entered into national and international short film competition. Film making will continue, in short and longer term projects as a workshop group is being set up which will welcome more young people, and their parents, to join in. The focus on film in the community is continued with a Neighbourhood Film Club, developed through the project. There will be screenings, seasons and special events, presented in informal and social settings. As well as feature films, work could be shown by local artists and film makers, and archive film from MACE, a Regional Collection held at the University of Nottingham. Anyone interested in the workshop, film club, and seeing the films, or to find out more about the project should contact Carol Crowe.

Organiser Carol Crowe, from Lady Bay Open Studios, said
"SHORT SHOOTS was an initiative responding to great enthusiasm for film making and watching following our Open Studios 2002, which turned the Scout Hut into a Cinema to screen a 90 minute programme of short films, which included the work of local artists and children. "Making and watching film is a great way for artists, parents and young people to enjoy creativity and learning together. With digital cameras and computers now in many homes and all our schools we can get young people doing this - it’s much better than hours spent playing at a games consul! "Of course it could be fame and fashion that attract them, but they’ll find these creative industries are a growing area for employment and careers even if they don’t make it into The Big Time! "
Fundraising for the project took two years and totalled over £7,000. This is matched by the considerable amount of voluntary time given before and during the project. The SHORT SHOOTS project is funded by Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, West Bridgford Round Table, EM Media, and National Lottery, Awards for All. It has been working in both voluntary and professional partnerships; with parents, Lady Bay Open Studios, Lady Bay Primary School, Broadway Cinema, and Intermedia all supporting the project with time, expertise, skills and resources.
