Rod Bailey
I studied at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design (Graphic Design) and at Goldsmith’s College, University of London and taught Art and Design in schools for over 20 years. At present I continue to teach painting and drawing to adults, both at vocational (NOCN) and non-vocational levels for South Nottingham College of Further Education.
In addition to formal teaching I run occasional workshops for both adults and children in areas ranging from children’s projects, through colour theory to life drawing and landscape painting and I am skilled in working with a wide range of media.
I am constantly developing my own work and have a special interest in working with pencil drawing and with acrylic paints. Both mediums have an immediacy and flexibility that suit my speed of working. My life work is from observation within a limited timescale and is not altered after the study is completed. My landscapes are from a combination of observation and source material.
I want my work to engage directly with people’s experience so choose to paint and draw in a representational manner; it is not about stating the obvious, but about being taken on a journey without needing a map.
