Works based on night and light. The aspect of my work that takes the form of light boxes could broadly be termed Box Art since the images whether photographs, drawings, or mixed media in origin, are housed in box-like structures with apertures and electric light. These pieces represent a comparatively recent development in my work and were made from 2001. Several were included in my exhibition ‘Nightboxes’ October 2001. Others have been on show at the Art Exchange, Nottingham, and in the exhibition on the theme of ‘Light’ at Rufford Craft Centre in 2003. The works use light to illuminate the images, either permanently or as an option. In one, the viewer has the option to switch the light on and off as well as needing to pull up the front, slide-out cover to reveal the image. Other sets include voyeuristic peepholes, through which the images can be glimpsed. In some the light is emitted and reflected in the adjacent mirrors, which can also reflect the viewer. As a painter and printmaker I work in themes e.g. night, rain, storms, war. Solo exhibitions on the theme of night and light include Nightworks, Nightscapes, Nightboxes. Works based on night in Portugal led to large-scale paintings and screen prints celebrating the people and landscape there and my most recent exhibition, Portuguese Works. Tel: 0115 9626409 |
