The primary aim for the Lady Bay Open Studios is for artists and visitors to meet and talk; you can be sure of a memorable weekend where you can experience some artwork ‘hands on’ and see demonstrations of an array of skills.

The Lady Bay Open Studios group is not just about our event on the third weekend each May, now extending its activities and ideas into the year and into and beyond the community.

Art events at Lady Bay school saw local artists developing ideas and skills with the children; Following interest in films shown at Open Studios 2002 Carol Crowe developed a Digital Film Course for 14 young people to work with artists making short films. Their work will be shown this year as part of a programme of artists’ films.  Hazel Mills completed artwork begun by Open Studios guest artist Clare Satow last year; a 6ft map of Lady Bay created in textiles was taken round local community events where over 300 people contributed. It now hangs permanently in All Hallows Halls. One of our artists has gone on to organising the National Festival of Cartooning, in Nottingham: Pete Dredge, renowned cartoonist, works with Kate Fletcher of Café Wax bringing The Big Grin to Broad Street each July.

Lady Bay Open Studios is financed by artists’ subscriptions, by Rushcliffe Borough Council and by Nottinghamshire County Council, which enables over 1,500 people each year to engage with the arts in a relaxed domestic setting, breaking down barriers between artist and audience, and simply having a fun weekend.
