If you have just moved into a newly built apartment, you may be having a little trouble making the place feel like home. Often, recently constructed buildings are vaguely cold and clinical before they have really been lived in, and before you can get comfortable in this kind of space, it is important to make a few changes to it.
Basically, you need to treat your new apartment as a blank canvas on which you can project your identity. This shouldn't be too difficult to achieve; in fact you will more than likely find that you fit your home makeover into your daily schedule, between nipping to the shops and browsing the job centre online.
Colour is perhaps the most important thing to get right. If you are living in a completely white environment, and you are allowed to paint your walls, break out the tins and rollers and choose a palette that you think really says something about your personality.
If you aren't permitted to paint – or in fact even if you are – go for wall hangings and painted canvases to liven up the atmosphere. Scatter cushions, bookshelves and attractive ornaments will also help contribute to a more homely interior, as will mats and rugs that complement the colour palette.
Turning your flat into a home should not be a matter of major renovation. Rather it is about fixing a few, superficial details so that the rooms reflect your personality.
